This tool exists only to show you what websites can detect about you. It does not track you across sites, does not build advertising profiles, and does not sell any data. The fingerprinting analysis runs in your browser.

European Union

Sensitive area — read with caution. Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive (transposed in France as Article 82 of the Data Protection Act) requires prior consent to gain access to information stored in a user's terminal equipment. In its Guidelines 2/2023 (version 2.0, October 2024), the EDPB confirms that device fingerprinting falls under Article 5(3): merely "gaining access" to information is enough, independently of any storage. France's CNIL classifies fingerprinting among trackers subject to consent.

To be verified with a lawyer: the exact classification of extension detection under Article 5(3) is not settled by any known case law as of writing. The EDPB and CNIL texts make it very likely that detection for tracking purposes falls under prior consent, but no decision confirms this directly. Nothing categorical is asserted on this point.

United States

There is no single federal privacy law; the US relies on a patchwork of the FTC Act (Section 5, on unfair or deceptive practices) and ~20 state laws. Under California's CCPA/CPRA, fingerprinting data is "personal information", and the definition of a "unique identifier" expressly includes a "probabilistic identifier" — i.e. fingerprinting — treating it as cross-context behavioral advertising. Unlike the EU's prior-consent (opt-in) model, US state laws generally follow a notice-and-opt-out model: sites must disclose the practice and let users opt out of the sale or sharing of that data, and many states (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and others) require honoring the Global Privacy Control browser signal as a binding opt-out.

In practice, many websites use fingerprinting without proper consent notices. How can I protect myself from browser fingerprinting?
Use a privacy-focused browser like Firefox with the resist fingerprinting (privacy.resistFingerprinting) option enabled, or use Tor Browser which normalizes most fingerprinting vectors. Browser extensions like uBlock Origin can block known fingerprinting scripts. Avoid installing unique fonts or plugins that increase your uniqueness. What data does this tool collect?
This tool does not collect or store your fingerprint data. All fingerprint analysis runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. No fingerprint or personal information is ever sent to our servers or stored anywhere. The only server-side calls fetch your public IP address and HTTP headers for display purposes. Minimal server logs (IP, timestamp, user-agent) may be retained for up to 90 days for security and abuse prevention.
What is a canvas fingerprint?
A canvas fingerprint exploits the HTML5 Canvas API by drawing hidden text and shapes, then reading the pixel data back. Due to subtle differences in GPU hardware, graphics drivers, font rendering engines, and anti-aliasing implementations, the resulting image is slightly different on each device — creating a unique hash that can identify your browser without storing any data.
What is the difference between cookies and browser fingerprinting?
